If you are like most people, learning a second language can be difficult to downright impossible, but there are many different translator apps currently available that can do it for you.
Many translator apps require being online, but there are options for when there is no internet available.
Our favorite is the Google Translator app, it takes all the work out of searching by putting together a complete sentence to ask or answer a question using an Android smartphone such as a Samsung Galaxy.
One of the nice features offered with the Google Translator is it can operate offline.
Just download the language or languages you need before your travel when going off the grid where WiFi access is not available.
Currently, there are 133 languages to choose from Arabic to Zulu, which can be downloaded. It also offers written words-to-speech translation, which is helpful if you have difficulty hearing or seeing.
There are multiple translator apps available but none are as easy and user-friendly as the Google Translator app, plus it is free.
The Google Translator App also works flawlessly with all Samsung Galaxy Series and other Android Smartphones.
How to Install and Use a Google Translator App on an Android Smartphone
- Go to the Google Play Store and download the Google Translate App Here.
- After downloading the Google Translate app, install it and open it.
- Open Settings by clicking on the gear icon on the bottom right side of the screen and select “Offline Translation.”
- Click on the Plus Icon on the top right of the screen.
- You have up to 133 languages to choose from.
- Select the language or languages you would like to download for offline use.
Note: Depending on the language and file size, it can take up quite a bit of space to install. A fix for this is to have an external hard drive available to store large file sizes so you don’t have to delete any files you may need in the future.
Summary
Regardless if you are a beginner or an experienced traveler versed in many languages, it is impossible to know every language of every country you visit.
The Google Translate app allows you the freedom to communicate with anyone and anywhere, regardless of whether you are online or offline.
It can be a good idea to add an external hard drive to connect to your phone as the file size can be quite large, especially when downloading multiple languages and storing them for offline use.
Keep in mind that some features will work only online, such as camera, conversations, and transcribing. Make sure you have tested and explored using the app before going offline.
